Desert Sunset Maker

Create a bottle of swirling color and explore how different liquids behave.

Children made sunset bottles with materials including mineral oil and glycerin. The construction was accessible, while pouring from heavy containers still gave them something challenging to manage.

The finished bottles were visually striking, and each child’s choices produced a different result. The activity continued beyond the gathering too: the sync describes a child showing a sibling how to make a sensory bottle at home.
