The Chime Builders
Build a copper pipe xylophone with five playable notes.
A completed copper pipe xylophone.
Children compared the sounds of pipes of different lengths, then assembled xylophones with the notes C, D, E, F, and G. They considered where supports should touch the pipes so the notes could ring clearly.
With adult help, the group measured, arranged, fastened, and tested the parts. The result was an instrument the children could play and return to in later music practice.
